Yesterday@Naschmarkt. American tourists next to me inspecting the Baklava at one of the stalls. An elderly woman lifting her huge sunglasses: “It looks delicious, but is it Viennese?” No, Mam. Or maybe: Yes. It’s as Viennese as the exotic fruits, the Lokum, the waving porcelain cats or the Döner Kebab you may have for lunch. It’s like Knish or Tacos in New York: Not invented there, but an absolutely essential part of the culture. Because people come from everywhere to these cities and multicolor their face.
