Last night, I thought it might be helpful to set myself small goals for the next day. I have the bad habit of trying to do as much as I can as soon as I can, so later on, I can relax, except that’s currently making my upset. So, the task for today was experiment with colour, using two of my comics/zines as inspiration.
I decided to draw a scene, from a photo I took in my city before lockdown started and then colour it depending on the style. The first: Hand Me Down:
This comic uses only greens, primiarily as one saturation, but I decided to mix things up a little and have a variety of greens, though limiting myself as much as possible. I think it looks nice, and could work for, perhaps a Victorian England scene.
Which was, unsurprisingly, very, very fun to colour in. I don’t think it’ll fit into any style, sadly, but I did apply colour contrast and how ti make things stand out. I had fun deciding on what colour to make the lines and how to make things as insuting to the eyes as possible. One thing I may note from this is how to give colour personality - for example I made it so the green on the road would go oto higher areas. I could do the same in the comic, and use colour as symbolism. Maybe.
I then some playing around with lighting a bit, using block colours to show where the light is, rather than where it is not. I also tried for a more limited colour pallet again, only using things on the orange spectrum. I think it went well, and hey - extra work!
I’m going to spend the rest of the college hours typing things up, because I’ve done plenty, I just need to make myself write it.
Note to self: colouring is much more enjoyable than lineart.
