I have been doing some research into the Spring Summer 2021 colour and fabrics for the need to feel safe and protected. I have seen that knit wear is key when wanting to feel sophisticated as well as safe from the harsh reality in light weight layers.
The colour scheme for 2021 are quite dynamic with majestic monochromes. We have seen some colour clashes but also some mineral tones mixed in.
Experimenting with Colour Schemes - Bookmark
After doing some initial research into choosing the right colour for my app, I used a few colour wheel websites to get a better look at different combinations.
MonoChromatic
I used canva’s colour wheel first to experiment. Above is my primary colour from my Bookmark logo - #5DBFBD alongside its monochromatic colour.
I think a Monochromatic colour schemes might work really well on my app and it might help me to achieve a simple, yet cohesive and elegant look of my app. But if I use a monochromatic colour scheme it means I’m only using one base colour, which is the main colour of my logo along with Its tints and tones as an extended palette. This colour scheme could also create a comforting effect on the eye. So it’s something I might experiment further with on my high fidelity prototype.
Complementary Colour Scheme
Above is a photo of a complementary colour scheme, I really like the colour combination as they contrast strongly. So they can be used to attract the viewer’s attention. I ideally wanted to use complementary colours through my Bookmark app so that the most important elements in the mobile app UI stand out.
Using complementary colours is the easiest way to make something to stand out. As you can see the notification bubble above is the primary example of the complementary colour scheme in use.
CONTRAST AND USER’S ATTENTION
Along with establishing readable text, contrast can also draw the user’s attention towards specific elements on a screen. Generally, high-contrast is the best choice for important content or key elements. So, if you want users to see or click something, make it stand out! For instance, users are much more likely to click a call-to-action button that strongly contrasts with its background. So above is an example roughly how I want my Bookmark app to look with the large pink Call to Action button drawing in the user's attention.

Finding relevant information about the original production of pigments and the current production of pigments is much more difficult than I expected. I feel it is such a specific knowledge that is not super popular with the broader public. I am watching more episodes of ‘Geheim van de meester’ and learning about pigments and their origin. While googling I also found some helpful information on the website of Talens. https://www.royaltalens.com/nl-nl/inspiratie/oorsprong-pigmenten/ultramarijn/
There is more about other pigments, so I hope this will help me a lot further in my research for the autonomous project for Digna.

Metameric effect: the colours appear to be the same, but vary under certain lighting conditions. ['Breathing Colour' exhibition by Hella Jongerius at the Design Museum in London] -------------------------------------------- I was really inspired by this effect when I studied Chromatics at my uni and found practical usage of this in the installation by Olafur Eliasson long time ago. Now I remember how deep and strong the relationship between colour and light is and how I am obsessed by this through this exhibition. So inspiring exhition!
