Okay I have a question.

The Eridians have clearly been working metal for a long time. You need fire to work metal. How did they start making fire, when their atmosphere doesn’t have oxygen?

Yes, you can have fire without oxygen. You can use halogens as oxidizers for combustion reactions. Fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine. A wax candle will burn in chlorine gas.

But… if they had oxidizers like that floating around in their atmosphere, wouldn’t they catch on fire? The oxygen in Earth air already had Rocky smoking (his hot circulatory system runs at 305°C). And at 29 times earth pressure, it would just get worse (more molecules of oxidizer in the same volume), wouldn’t it?

I’m trying to figure out a cool answer for how they could make fire while not catching on fire themselves. And my chemistry knowledge is Just Not Good Enough.

Would it take more energy to ignite a combustion reaction using chlorine, fluorine, etc.? How much more? Enough that 305°C wouldn’t be nearly hot enough to combust even burn-happy hydrocarbons?…
