rooiboos- three facts abt my family

my mom was born in the Dominican Republic bc my grandfather was a CIA agent in South America and they moved back to the states when she was in 5th grade bc his cover was blown. They had to leave their dogs behind in Uruguay which was apparently (and obviously) very upsetting to my mom and her siblings

my dad works for the gov overseeing trains, so his job is literally the game railroad tycoon, and he genuinely comes home every day and then plays railroad tycoon...when the government was shut down in earlier this year he bought a new computer bc the old one could only sustain like an hour or two of play a day and he was using it 8+ hours for the game when he wasn’t working

one time my siblings and I were at the house of family friends who had two children around our age, and we were playing some sort of game, and my lil bro defected to their side leaving my sister and me stranded bc he could tell that their home-team advantage and knowledge of the territory was tactically more beneficial than aligning himself with his own BLOOD

herbal- a bus stop selfie bc I am who I am. one of my normal stops is currently right in front of a major demolition project and there is just a massive field of rebar and heavy machinery slowly sorting shit out which makes waiting for the bus very loud and dusty

1. Song of the year?

1950 by King Princess. I loveeeee it.

2. Album of the year?

I had a tough year with albums, tbh. I didn’t do as good of a job as I have in the past few years keeping up and listening to new releases, and I felt underwhelmed by a lot of things that I was anticipating. However the two that I’m thinking of right now are at the top for different reasons. Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves is a stunning piece, and I think that I will be listening to it for many years to come. I love LM5 for sentimental value, and because I think that it’s fun and funky and fresh, and I’m excited to see them continue down this vein. There are some really great, interesting songs on it that are musically and lyrically distinct from so much of what’s getting radio play atm, while others still maintain their club-music vibe.

14. Favorite book you read this year?

And I Darken by Kiersten White, and the sequel Now I Rise. I’ve still got to read the third book in the trilogy, it came out when I was in Greece and I haven’t gotten around to it yet. I love well executed historical fiction, and I also love difficult female characters, and fuck does this series have both. It’s incredible.

But also, in terms of fic, I cannot scream about the Tales from the Special Branch series enough. The past year and a half of my life has been dominated by me being utterly obsessed with this series. There are 3 novel length fics, and the 4th is a WIP right now. It is THE BEST. I don’t want to spoil anything but it’s phenomenal and has some of the best long-term plot writing and development ever.

do I take shampoo and conditioner bottles from hotels? typically yes, but then I won’t ever use them, so they just accrue in my bathroom drawer until I move and throw a bunch of shit out.

3 favorite boy names mmm I dunno. When I was a kid I was constantly coming up with character names, but since most of my fiction writing or imagining is fandom based, I’m working with pre-existing characters, so names aren’t something I spend a lot of my time thinking about. My grandfather’s name was Fisher and I’d like to name a child that, if I have kids. I also like the sounds of Nathaniel and Joel.

sandals or sneakers I think sandals but that’s tough. u know I love my ~super chic~ tevas. I lived in them this summer, and I'm still trying to find a good sneaker-type shoe that works with how my feet are currently, since my gait is pretty different from how it used to be

I love the conversations I can have with my family. We all have very different interests, but care a lot about learning things, especially when they are important to each other. Whenever we’re all home together we spend the majority of the time talking, and really don’t have TV or any other stimuli as the focal point of our interactions, which I really appreciate and enjoy.

I don’t know what gets me up in the morning, dude. Getting up has always been something I struggle with, and it’s been a bit more difficult lately. Honestly, I wait until the last possible moment that I can swing staying in bed, that will still allow me to catch the bus up to campus. Typically, that means 9 minutes before the bus arrives 2 blocks away. I get up, throw on the first clothes I see, brush my teeth and bolt out the door. My morning routine is certainly not one to aspire to.
