The reason this is such a big deal is we have this big messy wonderful country where we fight with each other all the time, but nobody tells us what to think, what to fight about, what to vote for except other Americans. And that’s wonderful and often painful. But we’re talking about a foreign government using technical intrusion and lots of other methods tried to shape the way we think, we vote, we act. That is a big deal. And people need to recognize it. It’s not about Republicans or Democrats. They’re coming after America, which I hope we all love equally. They want to undermine our credibility in the face of the world. They think that this great experiment of ours is a threat to them, and so they’re going to try to run it down and dirty it up as much as possible. That’s what this is about. They will be back, because we remain, as difficult as we can be with each other, we remain that shining city on the hill, and they don’t like it.
James Comey, testifying in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee, June 8, 2017
Aside from media frenzy over Flynn, obstruction of justice, Sessions and all of it, I’m struck by one solitary fact:
Our President doesn’t care that our most dangerous enemy on the planet is actively trying to disrupt our electoral process and our democratic society.
In my mind this lack of interest - hell, even curiosity in it - constitutes giving aid and comfort to our enemy.
This constitutes treason. Nothing less.
"I hope someday somebody proves that we were irrelevant... I hope it had no impact."
Orion Rummler at Axios:
In a Tuesday interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour, former FBI Director James Comey conceded that his decision to announce in October 2016 that the FBI was reopening an investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server may have helped Trump win the election, but defended it as "the least terrible option."
James Comey admits what we knew: his ill-timed and foolish 10.28.2016 announcement played a big role in handing the election to Trump (alongside the Russians).
