Dwight, Negan and Sherry‘s relationship

...is so much better in the comics.

The show? I see a lot of people hating on Sherry, which I think is more for the fact she is banging Negan (and they aren’t) or that she is ‘ungrateful.’ I can’t fathom this in the least, because TV Sherry is a victim.

I mean, c’mon. Let’s say you had a little sister, a sick sister. And some 50-year old lecher proposed if she became his ‘companion’ he’d give her medicine for ‘free’? And she didn’t want to? Well, that’s why Sherry took her and ran and then her sister died because of it. She didn’t want to go back - it was Dwight’s idea. And then ... Negan was going to kill her to punish Dwight. But after Dwight pleaded, he decided to kill Dwight instead, and then Sherry offered up her only leverage - her body - to the man who was the reason she was out in the woods with her sister, who threatened to kill her, who threatened to kill her husband.

Yet...she’s ‘ungrateful’. Or not a victim. Or a bitch. Lol!

That’s the show.

It makes Negan look horrendous. Say that it was Sherry’s ‘choice’ and ‘offer’ to become Negan’s wife all you wish... what does it say about him to accept said offer?

It makes Dwight look like a turd, not that he needs any help with that in the show.

It makes Sherry into nothing but a victim and calls into question all the other wives ‘choice’ to be there too.

The Comic??

Very different.

In the comic, Sherry and Dwight meet Negan before the Saviors are established. Dwight brings the lone-traveling Negan into the group.

Fast forward a few months, and we see Sherry flirting with Negan behind Dwight’s back. We aren’t exactly shown the details of Sherry and Dwight’s relationship, but they seem happy together. But obviously something wasn’t quite right if Sherry was eyeing another man.

We start to see Negan slowly gain respect and deference from the group. Instead of questioning Dwight on the next path to take, they’re looking to Negan. Negan is taking control, commanding them and keeping them safe. And they follow. Meanwhile, Dwight stews in resentment.

What happens next hasn’t been shown yet. What we know is when Negan became the leader, he offered Sherry a place by his side without threats, pressure or force (as said in canon by another female Savior, one who dislikes Negan, btw...) Sherry took this offer and thus became Negan’s first wife. It hasn’t been disclosed whether or not they were sleeping together before this...

But considering Sherry’s flirtations earlier in an old hotel... 

‘I’ve always liked hotels,” Negan says and Sherry says, Me too, especially because of the things typically done in them. While staring at him while he shaves. So...I’d be inclined to believe they were already fooling around behind Dwight’s back... but this is speculation and not fact.

In the comics, these three players are neither good nor bad.

Dwight refuses to listen to anyone that Sherry isn’t right for him. Perhaps (speculation) his growing resentment for Negan drove Sherry away, esp when the group was all starting to look up to Negan. Dwight holds a long and hard grudge against Negan, just as a woman typically blames another woman for ‘wrecking her relationship’ and sometimes lets the man slide. Dwight has plenty of reason (resentment, anger, betrayal) to rebel against Negan - they did not need to make Sherry a victim like in the show.

We don’t fully know Sherry’s reason for cheating. It’s all speculation. Negan says she’s opportunistic, a ladder climber, and he saw her coming from a mile away. Laura says she’s a ‘cunt’ who wants to be lazy and pampered and would throw away her own husband for that. But we haven’t seen much from Sherry herself. Maybe she’s a gold digger. Maybe she had feelings for Negan. Maybe Dwight pushed her away and their relationship was already on the rocks.

And Negan? Well, Negan is still a jerkwad, right? He’s fucking the wife of the man who took him into the group and gave him a place among people again. He’s banging the wife of a man who trusted him. Why does the show have to make him a gross lecher trying to pick up a sick girl? Why do they have to make it so he only got Sherry because she was desperate to save her husband’s life? Why couldn’t they have stuck to a simple story of cheating and betrayal (with an added side of Negan being a homicidal and charismatic leader of a powerful group? ;))

In the comics, nobody in this situation is good or innocent. Negan isn’t totally evil but he’s still a dick, nor is Dwight evil (but he’s still possibly a dick and he’s got simple reasons to hate Negan), and nor is Sherry an innocent cherub. It’s all tones of gray like TWD is supposed to be, and keeps that icky vibe of Negan coercing his wives away.

Sherry's speech give anyone else bad juju vibes? Damn comic, don't go the tv-fucking-route with the wives, OK?

What do you think is Sherry's motivation for wanting to "take over whatever is left." ?

Honestly, I’m not sure what her motivation is.

According to what we’re slowly learning about Sherry, she is opportunistic. Perhaps she is a power seeker.

We also have learnt that Dwight is at least partly a bullshitter and frequently embellishes the truth. When he told Rick he ‘had to do what Negan said or he’d hurt Sherry’ that was obviously a lie. He called Sherry a bitch to her face. Then we see Negan saying he never hits his wives, nor did he ever threaten Sherry in front of Dwight. We see Dwight play both sides.

We also see that Dwight is lying to Rick in issue 141.(I think that’s the issue XD) He says ‘we (the Saviors) all hated Negan’. But in a later conversation with Laura… she pleads for him not to abandon his leadership of the Saviors. She says ‘without you around, you know half of them would want to go back to the way things Negan had it….’ Perhaps even to the point of wanting Negan back…? But according to Dwight to Rick  ‘no…they all hated Negan and his way of life!’ According to Laura who is a Savior: at least 50% of the Saviors preferred that life. Hmmm…

So. Sherry. We learned that when she heard about Negan’s ‘wife deal’ she immediately hopped on board that shit (or that dick?) and dropped Dwight like a hot Iron for Negan’s perks. Negan is the highest up in Sanctuary (and he had grips on at least 2 other communities), so she put herself at the place of the highest power in this particular world.

Negan says in 158: “I saw that bitch coming from a mile away. She was a ladder climber in the worst way.” Not that he cares, because he just wants to eat at the pussy bar. XD

Now that Dwight has left, Sherry apparently is in some joint leadership with John and Tara, so she’s still at the top, but now that there’s fair trade with the communities and not extortion anymore - she’s not living it up ‘rich girl style’. . Maybe she wants more - she wants to be essentially, Negan 2.0. Maybe she was totally in agreement with his way of life. She liked the luxury and she wants to go back to that. And to get that - they need to start taking from people again.

That’s really my only idea for her motivation right now.

… now for some crazy ass personal fantasies… LOL

I’m wondering how many people know Negan is out of prison. Is it just Dwight’s militia? I mean, Maggie must not know, and the Saviors definitely don’t know. I’d even wager most of Alexandria doesn’t even know.

So… what if, in the midst of ‘taking over everything’, Sherry is also planning to spring Negan from prison? Maybe she even has feelings for him. LOL Or maybe she thinks Sanctuary needs him back (and he’ll surely keep her by his side cause…well, she keeps a well stocked pussy bar….) Ok, yeah…this is is just my fanfic-y wishes speaking here…
