How your admin met Cobie.
At times, it feels like so long ago (last December) - but when I look at these pics again, it brings back all the feelings so vividly.
Portugal Comic Con, a chilly Friday morning - with no notion that this Friday was going to shape up to be the most amazing day.
I was with my Cobie-loving friend, as support and to get super excited with - so I couldn’t have asked for a better setup to meet the lovely lady.
Autograph Session (16:30): Cobie was a sweetheart, as expected - we hugged 2 times, that was very unexpected, and I was able to express my admiration for her and her body of work. We talked about my attempt to meet her in London, and that I had come to Portugal just for her, that was hug number 1 :) I told her about how another fan and I met and hope to be together in a relationship, and she very sweetly signed the autograph to both of us. I told her how much I loved her work in Independent film, especially Unexpected, and that I hope she would get the opportunity to do more. I think this was an unexpected (hehe) surprise for Cobie, and that was hug number 2 given (bless her). I said I would see her later in the photo-booth, we shook hands and that was my first experience - Beautiful!
The way she can listen with such intent, especially to someone she’s never met before was beautiful in itself. It was a lovely and quite affirming experience. It was such genuine appreciation, and a lesson for me in the power of stripping away those layers of over self-awareness - how your personality can shine through to those you appreciate, care about & love.
Photo-booth (17:45): We got these amazing photos together (I love them so much). We had a cute little moment where I walked into the photo booth, and was able to say “Hello again” (I loved that I got to do that, to see her twice in the one day). I immediately went to move beside her, for the photo (seemed to be a very formal setup, photo then farewells.)
But not when Cobie has a fan she likes, while I thought she was leaning in for the photo to be taken, she was in fact going in for yet another hug! She said in pretend shock “Are you not gonna hug me??” Of course, I’m going to Cobie! So I turned around and gave her a nice long hug, and said “Cobie, you can have all the hugs” towards her ear. She asked why in a fun way, but to be honest - I didn’t trust my brain to explain the little crossover mix-up of what had just happened together on meeting again. I just said in a heartfelt, probably slightly overwhelmed way, “I don’t know” and we had the photos taken above.
I’m convinced it was because of that lovely moment, that Cobie & I look so vividly happy and at ease. It gave the photos an extra bit of life and an in-the-moment feel. She was pointing at me towards the last few photos, and thank goodness I realised - her finger touching me with that sweet, surprised, vividly happy face. So I pointed at her too, and we got that amazing last photo. Like, it’s Cobie Smulders - I should be pointing back haha!
I’m hoping the opportunity to meet her again comes along very soon, I need to tell her how awesome she looked, as her character in the new Indie Movie, Songbird! :D Love you!!
