One of the highlights of attending #ComicConRevolutionChicago this Saturday was for sure meeting my first cosplay idol, @angiviper! Nowadays I follow too many amazing and inspiring cosplayers to count, but way back in 2013 when I was brand-new to the social media scene, Angi was the first that caught my eye. I was initially drawn to her Elsa (Frozen) cosplay, since she was one of the few people putting one together before the movie had even come out. But soon I learned about how much cosplay meant to her, her passion and dedication to it, and realized the kind of heart that went into this amazing hobby. Her personal connection with Elsa’s story in particular resonated with me. I really admired her singing the few lyrics Disney had revealed from “Let It Go,” even when a-holes on the Internet criticized her. Angi was unabashedly herself, and I wanted to be that way as well. As a fledgling cosplayer at the time just discovering other cosplayers on social media, I felt somewhat alone in liking to dress up like my favorite characters. Due to familiar pressures and my lack of self-assertion, it wasn’t something I was really proud of or thought was appropriate for an adult. Sooo much has changed over the past 5+ years, and Angi was in many ways the person that laid the seeds for that transition. So to Angi and all the incredible cosplayers I follow, like, and comment on - thank you for being yourselves, for sharing your hobby, and empowering and inspiring future cosplayers! ☺️💖🙇♀️ #comicconrevolution #cosplaylife #alwaysmeetyourheroes #womenofcosplay #womenwhocosplay #cosplayisforeveryone https://www.instagram.com/p/ByOMvOpDUyb/?igshid=1m7s9rirp8m31
