also, final addition to the angel comics critique but
they had all that space and they chose to awkwardly overlap the bubbles like that????????
The weird foggy Doyle face is also nightmarish tbh. Also whatever is going on with Angel's chin...

Hello World
Hello tumblrland,
I’m Mickey, half of the couple who will apparently be criticizing comics. But just who is Mickey? Why should I listen to him? Well you don’t need to know, but if you would like to, I’ll tell you a little bit about my relationship with comics.
It started, as most relationships do, with sly glances from afar as I read the comics in newspapers. I remember my favorites being Garfield, Foxtrot, Stone Soup, Pickles, Peanuts, among others. From there I would rent classic Justice League and Avenger collections from the library. Superhero comics have never held my interest as much as other genres for whatever reason.
I was also introduced by my mom to The Far Side around this time. I still can’t believe how much funny Larson could fit into single panels. I bought the Complete Far Side when I was around 13 years old or so for $80 at Costco, which was a big purchase for me at the time. I read through that thing in a day or two. It is still one of my favorite comics.
I started trying to emulate Larson’s style with one panel funnies, as well as creating my own strip about rats living in a wall called Life in the Hole (or something like that). And no, I don’t have anything left from either. I really wanted to create comics, but this dream got pushed down for other things, and I decided I just wanted to be a straight up writer.
In my high school years, I was introduced to graphic novels in the form of Maus, Persepolis, and some R. Crumb stuff. My interest in comics was reignited, but it wasn’t until college when I would try creating comics again. I took a couple of comic studies classes where I read more graphic novels, more superhero comics, and Scott McCloud, of course.
And now I’m currently pursuing a certificate in Comic Studies, as well as working on my own comic (though nothing’s ready to show).
Anyway, that’s probably enough about me.
My favorite comics right now are God Hates Astronauts, Saga, and Island (though that’s sort of cheating since it is a collection of comics). I’ll probably be writing a post on each these and the rest of my pull list eventually, so stay tuned!
TL;DR: I have no authority to be talking comics, but stick around anyways ‘cause it’ll be fun!
