apologies if you've answered this before, but what was caro's reaction to seeing john again? did they recognize him? did they run up to him and completely take him by surprise?
No apologies, that’s one of my favorite moments in their relationship and I love talking about it. Brace yourself for a long post cuz It’s touched on briefly in both comics, so I’m going to slap the relevant pages of how it went down for context so people who haven’t read don’t have to track it down (a mix of old art from Seemingly Dark and new art from Mil-Liminal, enjoy the contrast! I know comics are hard for some to get into and I like that people enjoy my ocs outside of them so much, so don’t feel bad for those who haven’t read. I get it!) but I’ll elaborate a bit too! Caro absolutely knew who John was, he’s a big reason why they chose to go to the coffee shop in the first place. Basically they get an email one day from a fan ‘maddie’ asking if they know anything more about a mystery they did one of their podcast episodes on. Caro looks up Maddie’s Instagram, and finds she works at Brew, a coffeeshop about an hour and a half drive from where they’re living in Seattle. Scrolling through the Instagram account they run across a picture of John, and 100 percent recognize him. They decide to go down there, to talk to Maddie, but also just to see him again. They aren’t sure what to expect. And yes they DO call him out and take him by surprise!
He doesn’t recognize them at first. They get it, they are a lot different these days, and later they learn that it’s also because he has memory issues and blank spots, and it takes him longer sometimes to connect dots. It never crossed his mind his little Angel and Caro Fucking Greene could be the same person.
Caro’s reaction was to play it really cool, like it’s ok, but inside they were losing their mind. He was OKAY! He was HOT! He looked like he had some friends and when he smiled, they could see that some of Sully was still in there, playful, snarky, sweet. They were completely smitten all over again. A little bit devastated he didn’t recognize them. But he’s the major reason they kept coming back, hoping for what? They didn’t know.
And he avoided them because once he did realize it, he was ashamed and humiliated. So it took a while.
Bonus That Night reaction, and conversation with Maddie later.
