“You Did Such A Cool Thing!: WUD Art’s Comic Symposium”
We are so thrilled to announce our first ever Comic Symposium, You Did Such A Cool Thing! This symposium celebrates the artistry behind comics, zines and illustrations, and brings together local Madison comic artists to share and distribute their artwork. Not only will WUD Art host artists including John Porcellino and Rachal Duggan, we encourage all comic artists to be involved in the art and share their work in our Zine Swap and Comics Slam.
4/13 - 5/18: Exhibition of John Porcellino’s Work, Gallery 1308 in Union South
This exhibition will showcase the work of prolific comic artist John Porcellino. Porcellino’s celebrated self-published series King-Cat Comics, begun in 1989, has inspired a generation of cartoonists. According to cartoonist Chris Ware, “John Porcellino’s comics distill, in just a few lines and words, the feeling of simply being alive.” His most recent published work include South Beloit Journal (2017) and From Lone Mountain (2018).
4/15: Zine Swap, Gallery 1308 in Union South, 2-5PM
Comics authors in Madison will have the opportunity to sell and trade their comics.
4/28: Comics Slam, 2088 Atwood Avenue, 7-9PM
Comics artists will have the opportunity to have their work projected while they read it aloud to an audience. Our headliner is John Porcellino. This event is occurring in conjunction with Print and Resist, which will occur April 28th from 11am-4:30pm at the third floor of the Madison Public Library.
5/4: Portrait Slam: A Workshop with Rachal Duggan, Union South
Rachal Duggan is an illustrator living in Madison. Her work consists of accessible and whimsical line drawings. She was the Madison Public Library’s artist-in-residence for January/February 2018. This workshop is centered on illustrating faces. We will examine famous faces as well as use each other as models to examine the complexity and subtlety of the human face. There is a 20 person cap on this event.
