Week 1 (part two)
Today’s class had basically the same structure as the last class. First professor Spivey started by telling us about the assignments that will be coming up, but also informing us about things that are most important about each assignment. I honestly enjoy how professor Spivey informs us of our assignments. I also liked how professor Spivey explained everything well, and took the time to tell us everything. Then, professor Spivey started talking about class material I was very pleased to learn about things that I did not know. For instance, I did not know where communication started or from where it originated. All I thought I knew was that communication originated back then since the beginnings of life on earth. I was so surprised to know that communication originated from Africa. Until this day I never asked myself a question such as “ From where was communication originated?”. I was never aware of it until this day, I was raised in a place where this was never discussed. When I attended school teachers didn’t care about what students were supposed to learn. So when I came to the United States I was surprised about how much we had to learn. Communication is something that is necessary for everyday life either if it’s language, signals or gestures. When I first came to the United States I was told to say “ I don’t speak English “. I was very interested in learning English because I wanted to communicate what I felt or thought to others. Whenever I heard people fluently speak in English I felt the need to learn English! Over the years I learned the basics of English but then I got better at it. Now I understand the majority of the things, I’m able to express my feelings and thoughts with others. From my point of view I can tell that communication is crucial to life. Communication doesn’t have to be about speaking with words but also facial gestures and symbols. I really enjoyed learning more about the origin of communication, but also that it can be media.
