If there was one season I would magically have a rewrite for where it can be remade in modern times with the same actors at the same age, same set, everything, it would be Lost Galaxy. Conceptually, it’s the show I think was most let down by the format. They had to stick to a more episodic style and couldn’t really break the status quo or explore deeper, which I know is also due to the production struggles.
Like, imagine if we got to see more of Leo’s struggles with feeling like he has to earn the powers he was given, and then we also see that mirrored with Mike once he comes back where they share the arc of needing to earn their powers due to feeling the weight of the sacrifice someone made for them to get them. Have Maya talk about Mirinoi some more. Explore what Damon Kendrix and Kai have at home and why they were so willing to leave it behind. I’d even maybe have a scenario where Commander Stanton is more involved, maybe not with the Power Rangers stuff, but at least in their personal lives. Explore a bit more the idea of a colony in space and what that’s like to live on, what that society is like. And also once Karone is here, just delve more deeply into her character too.
Like, I know they had 45 episodes, but I feel more like their biggest needs are things that would be slid into the episodes they already had. It probably sounds crazy, but with a more organized production, hour-long episodes might’ve actually helped it. And maybe it’s not this show, but if you wrote it as like a Buffy-style show in space with Power Rangers, that would be fucking sick. It’s genuinely the most ambitious season on the show, and it had the most weight to it, but it still somehow managed to fall a bit short, which only highlights how incredible it had the potential to be. I’m so sad that people (including me on the first watch), seem to sideline this season in favor of In Space, Lightspeed Rescue, and Time Force, because it’s genuinely a top 3 season in terms of the story it tells.
