Send me a “Unrequited” and I’ll write a drabble about one character longing for the other
The internet was a deep dark Alice in Wonderland hole that Audrey had fallen into and couldn’t get out off.
She knew that spending her Friday night googling Stefan was extremely unhealthy. He had lied to her, deceived her, and made her a laughing stock across the world. She had fallen for someone that she truly hadn’t known at all. So why was she doing this to herself?
The more she read, the more Audrey wondered how the hell she could have been so blind. Luxembourg may have been a small, often looked over country, but Google had no limits. She looked at pictures of him, both paparazzi and official Royal family portraits, read articles and his Wikipedia page, and even researched his family history. No wonder he had told her that he didn’t have any social media accounts when they had first met. They would have all linked back to the truth about him about being a fucking Prince.
“Shit,” Audrey mumbled as she wiped away tears that had started welling up in her eyes. She had to stop this. But before she slammed her laptop closed, a picture caught her eye.
It linked to an article that after being translated into English read ‘Prince of Luxembourg returns home after study abroad experience in America.’ A quick scan of the article showed her that thankfully her name wasn’t mentioned. But the picture had caught Audrey’s eye because in it Stefan looked....sad.
Audrey couldn’t help but wonder if he missed her. Did he regret lying to her, and what had happened between them? The texts and calls and flowers she had gotten from him before he had gone back to Luxembourg had said that maybe he did but she had ignored them all. Could things have been different if she hadn’t deleted all his messages before even reading a word?
If she had to admit to herself though....she missed him. Audrey missed her friend. She missed morning coffees, studying together, and going to parties but then only hanging with each other. She missed his big, wide smile, and his stupid jokes, and the way he laughed. She missed how clueless he could be when it came to American culture, but then how academically intelligent he was. She missed his accent and the way his hair was all over the place in the morning. And sometimes, when she was alone in bed at night, she missed having him beside her, his warm hands under her shirt and his lips brushing against her neck.
“Fuck you,” she cursed at him, even though he was thousands of miles away. Fuck you for breaking my heart, Audrey thought but even as she did she was reaching for her cell phone. Maybe if she just heard his voice...
No, no, no bad idea Audrey, she remembered and then finally closed her laptop and tossed her phone away. She would hold onto her anger for another day.
