TERMINOLOGY - THE WORLD SPRITERS TOURNAMENT

Found In: Commentary Team/Prime AkumaVerse

There are two different versions of the World Spriters Tournament. The First is a OC Tournament on the Middle Ground. When it happens, people sign up with comics and compete against each other by trying to make the better fight between the two. The winner of a round is either determined by public voting or judges’ decision. This continues until we have a winner. While the archives end in 2013, there have been other tournaments as well as other hosts.

In the Prime AkumaVerse, it is an interdimensional tournament that a Sprite Eater created. His intention is to unite multiple worlds and hope to see connections made. Originally a yearly event, since it has grown he has moved it to a Biennial event. So while the 47th one has passed, it has been going on for 57 years. Besides the tournament, many booths are open for interdimensional trade and experiences. 

Regardless of which version it is, the winner of the Tournament will receive one wish. AkumaTh hopes to bring back the WST to be bigger with an actual cash prize, but until then it is for fun.

TERMINOLOGY - THE SPRITE ROYAL RUMBLE

Created in 2002, the Sprite Royal Rumble is an event that a certain number of fighters can participate in in order to win a wish of their desire. It is similar to the Professional Wrestling event known as the Royal Rumble, but with some minor changes. In the beginning, the entire fight took place within a single panel. You could see all the fighting but the dialogue took up most of the screen. That was originally done by AkumaTh. He did that for six events before King Lyger took over.

Under Lyger’s reign, the event was more varied than before. No longer was leaving the panel the way to be eliminated. Now you must have touched the outside area. Panel Times varied from comic to comic. There were even side stories happening outside the event. Sadly, his reign only lasted two years and it seemed after 2009 there wouldn’t be anymore of the event. That is until the 2011 Sprite Royal Rumble, created as a celebration of AkumaTh’s 10th Anniversary.

Taking what he has seen from Lyger and others, he created an event on top of a rooftop where the loser must be thrown off of it to be eliminated. It would also include a video to show the entire event at once instead of all the time during the comic. And in 2014, the Sprite Royal Rumble continued with almost no interruptions. With the exception of one not in 2017 and 2019 and one such event being hosted by Clockwork.

Despite there being 23 Main Sprite Royal Rumble events, there are other versions included in the set up. Besides AkumaTh made ones that were shorter, there was DP’s Rumble On, which inspired the arena set up and wider space. Also included are the two Rockman Rumbles made by K1Productions on youtube, which are fully animated and featuring Robot Masters from various Mega Man Titles. The Sprite Royal Rumble has a bright future ahead.

JURI

Allegiance: Civilian

 Originally a popular cocktail waitress, Juri was found by a Talent Agent looking for a referee to replace Koto during the Dark Tournament. While she was happy for the opportunity, the dangers she was not a fan of. It got so bad, she admitted to the public that she was still a virgin since she didn’t want to die as one. Wanting to avoid all that, she went to pursue an acting career instead. Sadly, even with a Talent Agent, she couldn’t find any roles for her to play. She returned to being a waitress when Koto offered her a job as an announcer. She won’t be in any danger and has more TV Time. Juri takes the offer and has since been an announcer and an interviewer when given the chance.

KOTO

Allegiance: Civilian

An Idol among the Demon World, Koto was everywhere. When you need someone to do the counting, refereeing, or play by play, she’s always there with her excitement for seeing carnage. She was especially good at her job during the Dark Tournament and Demon World Tournament. When she was offered a spot to be a full time commentator to a multiverse, she took her chance and since then been Sagat’s Partner in delivering the play by play in numerous events, including the Sprite Royal Rumble. Koto often seems overtly-amused in the suffering of the fighters, but only when both contestants can fight. And what she lacks in knowledge of the specific aspects of fighting, she makes up for it in knowledge of everything around the fight.

Fun Facts:

Koto was not originally the fighting fan in the original language. That was an addition made by the Dub.

Despite popular belief, Koto is not a fox demon. The Funimation dub, in which Yusuke mistakenly refers to Koto as a "fox girl", has led to widespread misconceptions about Koto's species. She is actually a cat demonóshe frequently meows in the manga, and in the Funimation dubbed anime she refers to her ears as "little cat ears" and is called a "kitten" by Bakken.

SAGAT

First Appearance: AkumaTh's Comics #504

Dimension: Commentary Team

Allegiance: Warrior

Sagat was always a fighter. Even at a young age, he would be in constant fighting in the streets. But wanting to improve himself, he began to study Muay Thai. By Age 15, he was already fighting for the championship and eventually earned the title of Emperor of Muay Thai. This changed when facing a relative unknown in Ryu who nearly killed him. Since that moment, he wanted revenge on this wandering warrior. This led Sagat down a dark road that led him to Shadaloo, where he became M. Bison's Right Hand man.

When he confronted Ryu, the warrior threw the fight. Sagat did not know why until he too threw a fight against a challenger looking for revenge. True rivals should not be blinded by rage and hatred. After helping Ryu free himself from Bison's control, Sagat looked to improve himself to defeat Ryu, not for revenge but as true rivals. While Sagat continues to train himself to truly be able to communicate through his fist, Sagat took a job at commentary alongside Koto.

Sagat proves to be an excellent commentator, having knowledge of the fighters (through previous interactions or studying on their history) and knowing what they’re likely thinking in the fight. Sagat is still very serious and if challenged will prove he is still the Emperor of Muay Thai. He never joins the events because in the end he has no desire for its prize. After all, a King has no need for such frivolous things.
