Here’s the story morning glory; Scout has no goddamn clue what they’re doing. But that’s pretty obvious the moment you look at them, so it’s fine right?

This is what happens when your parents think they’re hippies, and your older brother decides the best way to rebel is to become an investment banker.

Jackson is very clever and we’re all very proud of him, sure, but where does that leave Scout? They’re no good at math, they’d never survive as a capitalist slave

But it’s secretly the goal of every teenager on the planet to do the opposite of what their parents want, and all Scout’s parents wanted was for them to succeed in their goals

So Scout spent a few years refusing to have any goals at all. They got a shitty studio apartment and a job bartending a dive bar and decided they weren’t going to try. 

The first few years were smooth sailing; no drama, no dreams. Just Scout and their mediocre job and their mediocre life.

...And then the bar started having indie movie nights, showcasing local talent.

Well, Scout thought all these movies were pretty shitty. Their manager told them that if they could do better he’d show their films on movie night.

They didn’t become an overnight sensation or anything, but they did finally find something they were passionate about; storytelling through film.

Reluctant to admit that drive and passion are good maybe, Scout has enrolled in the most average college they could find, for fear of being laughed away from anything more prestigious.

Plus, film is all about finding your niche, right? Maybe their niche is just... Regular people, figuring things out. Shining a spotlight on stories people don’t realize are important.

Or maybe they’re going to start making gory b movie horrors that goths watch at cemeteries, they haven’t decided yet.

so here's the basics: lydia was born to a quiverfull fundamentalist christian family from an isolated part of the state. don't worry, she wasn't in a cult, she just has 15 brothers and sisters and was isolated for most of her life until cps raided her house when she was 17 and she decided to move in with her brothers and sisters who had left previously (cora, 24; matthew, 27; and penelope, 28), who all live near greendale. the rest of her siblings live a couple towns over. 

while at home, she very much had the “good child” image. she did a lot of chores under her big sister, madeleine (25), and looked up to her constantly. she took over chores when madeleine got married and moved out. she’s a classic golden child.

she... did try public school, but there was a manure-related incident that led to her being homeschooled until she got her ged. she is very excited to give the proper school experience another go, and is very keen to tell you how she is not gonna have another bag of manure incident, trust her. 

at first glance, she’s pretty sheltered, very excited and gregarious and excited to get to know people. she doesn’t know how to say “no” (possible plot?). 

however, she is a bit more worldly than people give her credit for. i mean, she lives with her three older siblings who have introduced her to a lot of more modern stuff, but they are... still pretty protective of her. 

they’ve also added two new siblings to their now thoroughly-overcrowded two-bedroom apartment: hazel, 19, and samuel, 18. i’m writing this all down so i don’t forget. 

oh and she’s the only member of the apartment who still takes calls from their parents and older siblings, especially madeleine, who somberly remind her to remain virtuous and godly. weirdly she... doesn’t take them as seriously anymore.

oh and she’s a nanny of course she is... very good with kids. she is very hip to all the kids tv shows.

so, here's her story: she's the eldest daughter of america's top cardiologist and a famed nyc litigator. her little sisters are both in university, one is currently doing her phd in music theory in fucking vienna, the other one is doing her undergrad in economics at harvard. roscoe doesn't talk about them.

what's roscoe doing at greendale you may ask? well she was always the black sheep of the family, taking chance after chance and throwing them away, and now her family has finally threatened to cut her off unless she goes to school.

she signed up at the first school she saw in the middle of a cross-country road trip, and she's been here ever since. idk how long ago its been, but i think its less than a year. and still, even while at school, her allowance is fucking minimal compared to what she was making before.

Karan’s a first generation half Indian, half American. He has an older sister who’s basically perfect in every single way ever. He’s more of the “throw something at a wall and see what sticks’ kinda guy. 

When he was younger, he had big ass dreams, like being a doctor or some kind of famous guy who saves the world, but you can see that growing up makes you dumb every day. 

so he basically fucked around and did a little bit of everything 

my dude here loves to lie, and he’s really good at being a convincing little shit, which made him pretty good at what he did 

and then his dad almost died and he’s okay now, but that gave karan an epiphany and he kinda decided to follow that dream out to fruition. 

greendale was p much the only affordable option, and a year into his forensics course, he’s pretty happy to be here, honestly!
