When Constitution Meets Chai Pe Charcha
Just watched “With Honors” and honestly, India’s democracy could use a dose of Hollywood wisdom with desi tadka! The film’s homeless philosopher tells Harvard that Constitution’s big idea is faith in the common people…but in 2025, our netas have more faith in IT cells and dinner parties than voters or wisdom. Remember “by the people, for the people”? Now it’s “by the netas, for the trending topic!”
“Amendment” is the new masala. Politicians promise “we’ll listen to citizens”—right after muting common folks faster than Kapil Sharma mutes his audience. Our Constitution is supposed to change and adapt, but nowadays everyone’s voice gets lost between Arnab’s primetime shouting and aunty’s WhatsApp polls.
Let’s bring back real democracy! If chai pe charcha and citizen wisdom got half the screen-time as political theatrics, even Monty and Simon from “With Honors” would give us a standing ovation.
