What a riot of color! And besides the pheasant, I even spotted the hen, which usually stays hidden. I also noticed that the pheasant is very long from beak to tail tip. When photographing it, I focus on the head, and there's always the risk of cropping the tail in the picture ;-).

A common (or ring-necked) pheasant, Phasianus colchicus. This species is naturalised, but the numbers are boosted by artificial releases every autumn in preparation for a lot of jolly shooting. I sincerely hope this fine fellow escapes! Surrey, UK, November 2025

I genuinely think that game hunters should just become (safe and not horrible) doms instead. It's consensual, it isn't murder, you could satisfy that need for conquest and a game, it can have skill and complexity involved if you're tying.
