I picked the very first poem in Long Way Down. When I first read this poem it left nothing but questions in my mind and wondering that was going to happen. It also introduces the slang and personal character of Will. When he says, “and truth is, you probably ain’t gon’ believe it either gon’ think I’m lying...” It made me wonder why he hasn’t told anybody this story, is it because he thinks they won’t believe him? Or is it something that he did and therefor could get in trouble for it? After reading further, you can see these allegations are true. I mean, who would believe this was all true? Especially from a fifteen year old boy. However, he did have to follow the rules... no snitching, no crying, get revenge.
The readers are left to brainstorm on what could possibly happen next.
