Driving between Austin and New Mexico as my family recently did, you race by the fields of wind turbines that are a step in changing the way we reap energy. It's nearly impossible to count them (I tried to convince my kids to try, but they weren't buying it), and as the photo essay linked in the the title above shows, they represent an unimaginable amount of work. Brilliant design, incredible logistics and seamless execution that looks at first glance like it could have been done by a child with a handful of pinwheels at the beach.
But these aren't child's toys—they are built to withstand forces that the average non-engineer can't wrap their heads around. Incredible torque from the winds whippin' down the plain and blades whose tips are spinning at over 200 MPH.
When something so simple is not that simple at all, it can be a lot of fun to pause for a moment to look at the pieces. Good communication often has layers of planning and execution that are hard to even imagine for someone that hasn't been through a similar process themselves.
