Some comp gov notes that I spent almost all of yesterday afternoon working on and parts of today, but thankfully it’s the only homework I had so I could really focus. Also, I started off the school year thinking that my AP Comp Gov class would be so hard but so far it’s really fun and relatively easy too, I’m completely loving it.

different criteria for failed state:

peace fund: security apparatus, facrionalized elites (gridlock), group grievance, economic decline, uneven development, brain drain, state legitimacy, public services, human rights, demographic pressures, refugees, external intervention (others saying they don't count)

3 general paths to statehood:

transformation: an empire gradually became a state, or a monarchy did

unification: independent units become one (Germany used to be a bunch of princehoods)

secwssion: like balkanization
