As I have mentioned before, I believe Distraction is the Devil, and have also mentioned in my TEDx Talk that our futures will be more positive with compassionate technology and systems that replace alerts with real time interactions. The speaker Tristan Harris presents some practical design methodologies to implement just this sort of thing in his TED talk, and he is working to build the world he wants to die in.
His premise begins by asking different questions about communication and how we measure success and cultural values. Are we as a society ready to value technology based on their intrinsic value? In this scenario rather than measuring value on mere productivity, we would measure success on net contribution to humanity. It begins by declaring and demanding this exists.
