“I wish more skaters would try a 3Lo3Lo combo. I know it’s not easy and that it’s difficultly doesn’t really translate into its BV, but there is just something about it that makes it so pleasing to watch.”

Join us for the National History Day Competition
Join us tomorrow in our Oprah Winfrey Theater for a showcase of 25 student documentaries which represent the mission, values, and spirit of our museum. This event is free and open to our museum guests to enjoy.
National History Day is a year-long academic program which engages the historical thinking skills of students. Today more than half-a-million students participate in the program conducting original research on historical topics of interest which is based around a yearly theme set by NHD. The 2016-2017 contest theme is Taking a Stand in History. Students have the opportunity to present their research as a paper, documentary, performance, website or exhibit.
We have been supporting and celebrating the endeavors of these students, their teachers, and their families through our NHD @NMAAHC Initiative. As our museum is charged to tell the American story through the African American lens, we are assisting students to become better critical thinkers, better investigators, and learning how to question the historical narrative to better represent the histories of underrepresented peoples.
On June 14, please considers stopping in to catch an example or two of the impressive work of NHD students.
