I'm watching the world championship. This is the first big tournament I've followed for since... Kaladesh if I remember correctly 🤔
There's been a lot of changes to pro magic since I last watched. Like a lot of change over in the coverage team. And I like the current coverage team imo! The production value seems a lot lower though 🤷♀️
While there's a bit of change over in pros and while there's more gender diversity than there used to be, it's sad there's not enough for any of them to make day 2, let alone top 8 😔 (On a more positive note, I think it's adorable how awkward pro magic players are during interviews and I'm glad that never changes 🥺😂)
So, my main character for the tournament is glissa!!
LET'S GO GLISSA 🌳💀🌳💀🌳💀🌳💀🌳
looking cute as fuck pulling up to my LGS for Tuesday night modern tbh
So, like, I didn’t post before, but last month I top 4’ed a Modern Elite Event playing Dredge post-Faithless Looting ban. I just top 4’ed another one today. I think I’ve come a long way from when I first started playing back in Scars of Mirrodin.
I honestly wouldn’t mind Stoneforge Mystic getting unbanned in modern if it meant Ancient Stirrings took its place on the ban list. While I personally don’t like Mystic and I feel like it would warp how most white decks function, I feel like over time it would settle into a proper niche. This tends to happen a lot with powerful freshly unbanned cards, people try to jam them in everything (see last unban of bbe and jtms) but eventually players find that they only really work where they work best. So now Jace is only in the slowest of control decks, meanwhile bbe only settled into Jund and Ponza.
I bring up Stoneforge for a few reasons. People keep tossing around the rumor that it could be unbanned, and while I’m still wary of it (mostly bias because I dislike equipment toolboxes like swords and whatnot) I feel like the format is fast enough that Stoneforge is fine, and often times will die before it can crank out the gun you tutored. But along with this, is my constant cry for Ancient Stirrings to go away. The problem with this card is that while yes it technically is a niche card, manages to find it’s way into a lot of decks that become annoyingly consistent. KCI, Lantern Control, and Tron being the big three, and while not all these decks are individually a problem as far as clogging up top8′s, but KCI and Tron in particular do push a lot of other decks down. Along with this is that a format including Stoneforge along with Stirrings seems like a bad time. A Bant StoneBlade deck sounds like a nightmare for the format if it can keep pace, and considering things like Noble Hierarch, I imagine Bant has a good chance of pulling together an extremely powerful package. Or maybe Stirrings doesn’t even matter and I’m just willing to throw everything under the bus to get it banned because I don’t like Tron.
ANZ super series modern qualifier thread!
taking hammer time into a post fury and beans ban meta is potentially quite good for me, gonna be listing my games and results here
first update:
round 1: bye
round 2: 2-0 vs prison, pretty simple matchup, game one was a turn 2 hammer equip into a scoop, game two dragged out a little longer with a nine lives but I was able to just pressure with saga constructs and esper sentinels and got the counters onto the nine lives
new entry into my foray into competitive magic, last week was an out of town trip for a modern RCQ, today it's a sealed RCQ and tomorrow another modern RCQ. will post with the results through the day, wish me luck! the lost caverns of ixalan prerelease was quite fun so I'm looking forward to today.
RCQ number 3, and the last one of the year, gonna be an interesting one freshly post ban, have not at all gotten an opportunity to change my sideboard so fingers crossed, honestly not expecting it to be too bad, hammer is probably one of the least effected decks and has probably gotten better in the wake of the bans so, wish me luck !! Will update throughout the day
