Bird for a spin today. 6.7 miles of brisk walking with small trotting sections. Purpose? Get used to the shoulder of the road, to traffic, to very frightening culverts. Try out size 0 easyboots (fine) on fronts. Sensible forward walk, workmanlike approach to going exploring, etc. It went well.
Today I got out of the city and rode! This was the first time back on a horse since Argentina--what an upsettingly long time! But hey, I was being picky (still am) about what horses I am willing to spend time riding. While I enjoy a challenge, I don’t want to get dumped every ride.
I may have gotten very lucky as I found someone who was looking for a rider to exercise a Morgan mare that she has. She wants to keep her in shape and potentially put her into Competitive Trail Riding. This is a sport I haven’t done yet, so of course I’m leaning towards trying it. I really took to riding out of arenas after Argentina, and now the whole ride for a few hours in gorgeous scenery is all I want to do! And I have the chance!
I love the irony of the fact that I saw a conversation on here last week about taking photos while riding being dangerous when the literal ACTHA obstacle I judged this past weekend required me to give the rider a camera, they would take a selfie, and then I would take the camera back. Yep. Taking a photo while horseback is an actual sanctioned obstacle by an actual competitive trail organization.
