My echo is the only voice coming back || (Closed)
Her stomach sank a little but she brushed it off. Raye wasn't sure why she'd even hope to see him. He and her mother had left her and Lake years before and she never worried about it, but at the thought that he could have been there, she was excited. Walking back out of the living room, Raye slowly began to climb the stairs to her room. When she pushed the door open, she recognized the bed immediately but it wasn't her own small one she'd slept in as a child. It was the larger, double bed that she'd shared with Aspen when living with her and Mr. Cook some nights. The one she'd curl up next to the other girl in and speak words Raye normally wouldn't by the light of day. There was a lump under the covers, breathing rhythmically and Raye approached it to climb in with her but when she lifted the covers away, they fell flat, no one underneath them. Someone surprised, Raye quickly turned around. "Aspen?" She glanced around the room but found no one.
Then there was the sound of laughter, voices all coming from the hall. They were familiar. Jake, Aurora, Ivy, Piper, the rest of the witches. Her real family now. A small smile tugged at her cheeks as Raye approached the door to see them all , their voices growing stronger as they did though she couldn't recall what they were saying. She threw the door open, eyes wide but falling immediately when they landed on an open room. Raye's heart was beginning to race, and her palms getting clammy. She wasn't sure what was going on but it didn't feel right. Her eyes frantically searched the room, until she heard that dull sound of a shower running, a small hint of fog moving from under the room. Shutting the door she'd just left, Raye crossed the hall to the bathroom. Tapping her knuckles lightly against the wood, Raye called out quietly. "Hello?" "Come on in, Tiger." It was Seleca's voice. Feeling relieved and excited to have actually found someone, Raye once again threw the door open. But as she did, the fog fell away, leaving only the lingering scent of her girlfriend's shampoo. "Seleca!" Raye shouted her name into the empty house with no response.
"Are you trying to wake the bears?" It was undoubtedly her sister's voice, and Lake's hand fell on her shoulder just as Raye turned around. "No I just can't find--" She was cut off with the familiar sensation of disappointment at the sight of no one behind her ".. everyone." She finished defeatedly, beginning to fell her chest tighten. Don't cry, Raye. Don't cry. She told herself the words over and over. You have to be strong. Don't cry. With hurried footsteps she moved downstairs again, eyes moving over the house for any sign of what was going on or where the people she cared about were. But there was no one. Finally, Raye opened the door and moved onto the porch. Sitting in a chair to her left was Violet. Not just a scent or a sound, but in the flesh. "Violet.." A smile spread across her face and as she stood, Raye moved to hug her, though she didn't really know why. She just wanted to be held for a moment really. But as she moved, Violet lifted her hands and stopped her. Raye froze immediately, her own purple eyes meetng the ones across from her and noting with a twist in her stomach the solemn expression on her face. "What's wrong?" She asked quietly. "Where is everyone?"
Violet's response was at first, only a shake of her head. Raye's heart was starting to hammer but she didn't take her eyes off her coven leader, hanging on to her every word as though her life meant it with a pleading look. "They're gone, Raye." The sound of her true name and not the one Violet called her landed like a brick of cement on her ears. "They left. You let them down." Tears immediately formed behind Raye's eyes and she shook her head. "I don't understand... Violet.." What did she mean? Had they just left her? Or were they actually gone as in no longer alive? Raye's thoughts raced faster than the increasing beat of her heart but came right back when Violet spoke again. "Maybe, if you had been better..." Violet trailed off, her tone thick with disappointment as she shook her head, looked away from Raye, and walked down the porch before fading away. "No Violet, please! Please come back, please tell me what I did. I'll fix it, Violet, Please, I promise. Violet!" But the world went back to empty.
