Compulsive biting
Okay now, this is going to get gross.
It started as biting the nails on my hands super short. It spread to biting my toenails and scratching my cuticles open, ripping off the skin that used to be covered by the nails which got permanently really, really short.
I started ripping the insides of my cheeks. My mouth is lined by scar tissue and I rarely don’t have a sore spot in my mouth. I don’t have herpes, so it’s all by own doing.
I keep picking my scabs open and eating them, resulting to huge wounds that I don’t let heal if I’m not determined to let them heal. I literally have to conciously leave them alone so I don’t scratch them, and I have several scars on my legs that originally were mosquito bites.
Lately I’ve been biting the skin on my toes and feet. Literally eating avay the skin off my soles, resulting painful sores and difficulty walking.
It hurts me and it’s gross but I can’t stop. I do it when I’m in my thoughts and every time I shower and my feet are soft, I bite them. I hide it from my family and friends because they find in disgusting. I can’t talk to anyone about it.
I'm not diagnosed but I've been trying to stop recently but I constantly bite my bottom lip without realising it and it makes eating really painful! I don't notice I'm doing it and nobody else does, so I'm at a loss of how to stop :c
This one is a tough one because it's hard to find ways to keep your mouth occupied so that you don't bite at it. Perhaps pick up a chewing gum habit? I've also heard the suggestion to, if you do notice yourself doing it, suck on an ice cube. (Of course be careful with that because if the ice is dry it can stick to your lips.) I might also suggest keeping chapstick or lip balm on you at all times and make a habit of applying it regularly.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
