Tfw your mother in law is an actual hoarder but she makes fun of how you neatly condensed the belongings of two people into one minuscule closet and room space. (With comments such as “that’s a lot of stuff you got there” and “when you guys own a home you’d better make sure you have two closets just for you!!”)But sure, her entire unfinished basement full to the ceiling with boxes and papers she hasn’t even looked at in 15 years isn’t a problem. Or the fact that she has THREE cabinets in her kitchen dedicated to old candles is completely fine. And the solid inch of dust on every surface of her home? Must be completely acceptable. But my three, neatly stacked and organized Rubbermaid bins are something to laugh at????? It’s just something she feels the need to comment on??? Like, every time she just sees a closet she needs to bring it up???? I don’t know if I should laugh or cry and I don’t know why it bothers me so much???
If you don't want me to post a message just tell me. I'm willing to listen to anyone rant about their situation. There aren't many outlets for people in hoarding situations so I'm willing to listen/encourage/ help any way I can.
Hoarding is the persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions, regardless of their actual value. The behavior usually has deleterious effects—emotional, physical, social, financial, and even legal—for a hoarder and family members.s
