It was odd being back in the same town she'd grown up in after she'd run away the way that she had. When she found out she was pregnant Cass had left town and gone to stay with her older brother. That was the smartest thing for her to do because it stopped Ethan from having to give up on all of his dreams because of her. So she never told him, just packed up her things and left. But she hadn't expected to come back. Her father always came to visit her so she didn't have to. But when he'd ended up in the hospital Cass couldn't put off coming back anymore. But at least things seemed to be the same as they were before. She held tighter to her sons hand as they walked down the street, but the moment he started to whine she lifted him into her arms. "It's alright sweetheart. We're almost there. Mommy just wants a muffin."
She walked into the coffee shop and held him a little tighter. "How about a hot chocolate?" Cass smiled down at her little boy before kissing the top of his head as she waked to the line. "And a blueberry muffin?"She brushed a crazy strand of his hair off his head and froze as her eyes landed on Ethan. Her eyes quickly moved away from him. No, there was no way he was still there. He was supposed to leave almost three years ago. That was how things were supposed to be. But there he was not ten feet away from her as she held the son she never told him about. Henry started to wiggle in her arms and she groaned. "Henry, careful." She put him back down before moving to his level. "You can't do that, you could fall." Her eyes moved over his head to Ethan and she managed a small smile as she stood up again.
