I had a fun Saturday as I had the pleasure of enjoying some long over due reading. Started with the original Marvel release of RED NAILS. Superb story with magnificent art by comic art legend BarryWindsorSmith. Enjoyed every bit of it. Then I jumped onto the Ablaze release. I love the visual presentation. Even if I didn’t know that that it was a European team on this book, you can see the European touch all over these pages. It actually made me feel like I was reading an issue of HEAVY METAL. I love the subtle changes they made as well. Finally I wrapped it up by reading the Queen of the Black Coast. Love the story but the art left me wanting more. I guess I owe that to years of art fandom with some of the greats from the 70s to present. The bonus reading for me was seeing that ABLAZE had included the original stories for RED NAILS and QUEEN OF THE BLACK COAST at the back of their issues. So it’s bad enough I’m not the fastest reader but the damn text was like Font size 2. Those readers came in handy. REH’s storytelling power was amazing. The storylines from the comic book writers doesn’t even compare to his incredible and detailed visuals.
