Unpopular opinion for Yona? :)
Thanks for the ask! Well, I think I have quite a few lol. You want me to get in trouble with the fandom, don’t you? xD Anyways let’s see.
1.) Lili is not that amazing at all.I don’t hate her or anything, but I feel like she is trying too hard to be like Yona and gets herself in trouble in the process. She tends to forget that Yona can be a bit more reckless cause she has a dragon circus following her. Lili doesn’t have that so you can be sure trouble ensures when she does something. I do appreciate her will and motivation to want to do something, though. It’s just she could go about it differently, imo.
2.) Geun-Tae and Joon-Gi were terrible tribe leaders and they got away with it too easily.I think in-universe characters and the fans of the manga alike are very quick to blame King Il for every problem in the tribes. Which is - imo - not correct. I’m not saying that King Il is not at fault, cause surely he is, but it has been established early on that the generals are actually the governors of their tribe. They are the ones mostly responsible for everything that’s going on. King Il’s fault lies mainly in the fact that he did not motivate his generals enough to do their job. Anyways, Soo-Jin already got his punishment for being shitty, so that’s fine, but I have problems with Geun-Tae and Joon-Gi, especially with Geun-Tae. Joon-Gi has at least been called out to pull his shit together. However, not Geun-Tae. The guy literally turned a blind eye to the Awa human trafficing incident. All he did for years was rolling around in bed, quite literally. And honestly, no one fucking tells him that he was a terrible general, cause blaming Il is obviously easier. God… sorry this always makes me mad lol. As you can tell I don’t like Geun-Tae at all.
3.) Su-Won needs to get some sort of punishment by the time the manga ends.Okay, I’m not sure if this is unpopular opinion or not, I feel like the fandom is sorta torn regarding Su-Won. But anyways, I’m definitely not one of his fans. He seems to be a decent ruler, even if I don’t agree with some of his choices as a king. But I feel like he should not get away with what he did, you know? It’s not even just about Hak and Yona. Like, Il wasn’t the best king, but killing someone, forcefully taking the crown and declaring yourself to be the better option to rule the country is not the way to go about it. So yes some sort of punishment is in order, I hope Kusanagi will go through with it. Otherwise the manga would send a pretty bad message across.
4.) Su-Won did not handle the Xing issue well at all.He was so hell bent on starting a war that it was ridiculous. Where is the diplomacy? Surely, war is not the only option to handle a conflict. I can’t believe Yona had to be the one to tell him that.
5.) Su-Won’s admiration towards his father is bad and he needs to wake up.Yu-Hon was shitty, okay? There is no better way to put it. He literally beheaded hostages after the conflict was already over just because he had the power to do so and why not?? I can’t believe that Su-Won admires a guy like this, I can’t believe he thinks that what Yu-Hon did was okay. I just… Su-Won, please. This doesn’t show you in a good light at all.
6.) Yona would be a good ruler.Loads of people don’t want to see her on the throne because they think she doesn’t have the experience and the necessary knowledge for it, but personally I disagree. My only problem with her ruling is her age. But other than that, I think the journey she is on serves to make her ready to be queen one day. Along the way she meets people, she learns about the kingdom and about the problems and issues that need to be fixed. That is the best way to get to know your kingdom, isn’t it? Sure, she is probably missing some political knowledge and what not, but Hak as her husband would help her with that. He used to be a general after all, responsible for governing a tribe. He knows what he is doing, he also knows a lot about military. So even if Yona has some shortcomings, I think together with Hak they would do pretty well on the throne tbh. They would have the compassion and love for the people that Su-Won seems to severely lack sometimes.
I guess that’s all for now, if something else comes to my mind I will edit this post.
