#CLONEWARSSAVED. Let's talk about this.
Okay so my dash is currently going to be on hold concerning everything else just so I can rant about this beautiful thing.
Can I just say: oh my dear goodness gracious I have waited 6 years of my life for this and I am in happy, happy tears.
But look. LOOK AT THIIS BEAUTIFUL THING THAT WILL BE SEASON 7
So we see our boys are back. We've got our classic favorites, some old friends who aren't alive anymore and some who are, all mixed in the opening voiceover, helmets lined up only to be blown to bits, foreshadowing the destruction to come in Episode 3 (and, perhaps, Season 7 itself...?)
Then we see Anakin. All decked out in his Episode 3 outfit, flanked by our boy Rex and a newcomer. Pretty sure that's one of our Havoc Squad guys, and gosh am I stoked for that possibility. (Although @jumpingjaxx13 pointed out that he might be from the Bad Batch squad, which is a just as cool possibility and is probably a correct assumption).
And then. AND THEN.
THEN WE GET THIS.
THIS. THIS BRINGS ME SO MUCH EXCITEMENT.
We're finally getting the seige of Mandalore. Finally getting to see Anakin and Ahsoka back in action after she's left the order. We'll get to see Obi Wan and Anakin and Ahsoka have to work together despite everything that happened, and we'll get to see their reactions to it all.
But even better?
We'll get to see how this leads to the end of the Clone Wars and the beginning of Darth Vader.
At this point, Anakin is still Anakin. Ahsoka's leaving the order is and has clearly been one of many things that effects Anakin's decisions in Episode 3, but now we'll get to see that--his emotions of her leaving, his emotions of him failing her--begin to unfold on screen. And possibly we'll even get to see Ahsoka sensing something darker in him, as well as her reaction to that. Especially now that they'll be reunited.
And look at his face.
Look at his face.
Obi Wan is surprised, sure, but even his first action to seeing Ahsoka is to look at Anakin. To see how Anakin is faring at this revelation, and as we all can see, he's taking it hard. There's shock, pain, hope. A little bit of happiness in there, mixed with sadness. Happy to see her again, sad to be reminded that she isn't his apprentice anymore, and maybe not even his friend anymore for all he knows.
And there is something else, too.
@flaim-ita was the first person I saw who pointed this out, but look closer at Anakin's eyes... or more so underneath them. Are those bags under his eyes? How much sleep has he been losing over the loss of his friend? How much time has he spent awake at night wanting to go out and search for her? How much time has he spent worrying about her?
OH OH AND THEN THERE'S AHSOKA'S GREETING:
"Hello Master. It's been a while."
I'm sorry, but what?
She doesn't say hello Anakin. She doesn't go further and put distance by saying Skywalker, or Master Skywalker.
She says Master.
After all this time, after leaving the jedi order, after everything that has happened, she still thinks of Anakin as her jedi master. She's not even a jedi anymore, and yet here she is, referring to Anakin as Master, as if she was simply sent off on a long mission and is now just returning, more mature and more confident than she once was.
Sure, she looks apprehensive. A little angry, if I'm being honest. Definetly guarded. But that simple greeting tells so much about how she really feels. Maybe she does still feel betrayed, maybe she does worry about getting herself involved again, but you know what? She still sees Anakin as her friend. Maybe not the same way they once were, sure they still have breaks to mend, but deep down, he's still her mentor, and he's still her friend.
There's so little in this trailer, but already there's so much depth in it. Depth that we all missed and yearned for. Depth that The Clone Wars has always been loved for and recognized as having. Depth and realism.
So with that rant, welcome back, Clone Wars.
Darn it, we missed you.
