An interesting discovery on eBay one evening was the #civilwar uniform jacket of my great grandfather’s half brother, Augustus “Gus” P. Farnell, who lived in Jasper, HamiltonCounty, Florida when he enlisted. He was a musician with the 5th Florida Infantry CSA. The jacket had already been sold when I found the listing. The listing noted that the uniform jacket has his name stitched in it, “A P Farnell.” I’ve heard from a my now deceased cousin, James Manuel, that our great grandfather, Randel Farnell, has also been in the war. Since all family reports have said that Randel and “Gus” had a good relationship continuing after the war, I’m assuming the Randel may have served as his body servant, but I have not confirmed such. A P/Gus was captured in FarmVille, Prince Edward County, VA in April 1865, but imprisoned in Richmond. This was on 6 Apt, just 3 days before Lee surrendered to Grant st Appomattox Court House. Gus was released at the end of the war in June, 1865. Several years after finding the uniform listing, a gentleman sent me the daguerreotype of A P/Gus.
