Photocopy Experimentation (27th Oct 22)
I decided to take items from my tote bag and experiment with the photocopier. I struggled at the beginning to get the formatting and positioning right, but I eventually got used to it. Then Gemma helped me and showed me the different settings I could explore, to add backgrounds or add bits of debris to make it more authentic.
This is the first scan I took of my items. I used a white sheet for a background at first but found my items contrasted much better with a black background.
I then placed my bandana in the background and really loved this effect as I felt it really made it look like you were peering into my little tote bag.
I then began to experiment with more settings:
Black and white:
Compared to using a black background for the colored scans, I found a white background better for the black and white scans.
Inverted & black and white inverted:
I liked these images as I felt that they looked like x-ray images
Two-tone: black and magenta
I would like to recreate this image for a print
Layering sheets:
Gemma showed me how to layer the sheets and gave me the idea to experiment with capturing movement.
I would lower the density of the print and then print it out as I would usually. I then placed the printed sheet back into the paper tray, reposition my items and print again. this resulted in the images overlapping, to show that the things in my bag are constantly moving and items are removed or added.
I really like these images as I feel it truly connects to Temporary
I am happy with the scans I produced as it gave me the opportunity for trial and error and to experiment in order to capture the images that I wanted. I may do a second scan of my 'going-out' handbag, to contrast what I carry about in my daily life and what I bring with me on a night out!
