People can argue until the cows come home that conservative fans "Don't get Star Trek!!!" and I don't necessarily disagree. But the majority of young progressives Star Trek fans seem to believe that scientific optimism is Western centric and imperialist, that it's a moral imperative that people with bad opinions should be silenced by the bureaucracy and authority, and that diversity is only good when it's the sort of diversity they themselves enjoy, rather than all diversity being good in itself. And I honestly don't see how these people can reconcile those opinions with enjoying Star Trek, either.

In regards to 773, I think the answer to if conservatives or democrats can properly enjoy or understand Star Trek is really quite simple: most people don't watch shows with politics in mind and if you can suspend your disbelief enough to allow Abraham Lincoln to make a cameo appearance in your show set in a United Federation of Planets where a majority of the characters come from a United Earth when we can't even make united counties right now, then there is room to suspend disbelief for political ideologies you don't agree with somehow working, particularly when sometimes the show shows them not in fact working at all.
