Drake - Nothing Was The Same
Confessional rap is what they call Drake records. Rapping about feelings? We’ve finally found a way to collectively describe rap music that doesn't include all the scary street stories.
That’s a bit unfair of me, but the term “confessional rap” is a label for a nonexistent trend, one that only seems necessary to me if you’re talking to people who still have a lot of hangups about their perception of rap music. And hey, that’s not unfair either; In 2007 my idea of great rap music was Aesop Rock, and now I think Kendrick Lamar should be taught in schools. I’m by no means qualified to write critically about rap music, but I still consider that progress.
