Hi can you please give me any bible and personal advice on shyness? Is it possible to overcome being shy? Or rather being an introvert and being drained when I am with people? Even when I hang out with church people it's exhausting for me & I never feel better after being with people. I hate it and I don't want to be this way. I'm afraid of being like this forever. Any advice?
Hello :)
First I just want to encourage you to accept the way God has made you. He has made you to be uniquely you. :) I too am shy and don’t like being with too many people at once so I get where you’re at. It’s okay to be shy and introverted.
I don’t think you need to “overcome” shyness, but instead try to push yourself to be more open to spending time with others. But don’t try to be someone you’re not; be who you really are and don’t be ashamed of it. Be proud that God made you to be more reserved and don’t let anyone tear you down because of it.
You have to pray. Ask God to give you a little extra boldness when you hang out with people - that He gives you a boost of energy/patience - whatever you may need. Keep seeking for the company of others in Christ. In order to change, you have to want it - and as cliche as that sounds, it's true. You have to be active in what you want to achieve to achieve it. I believe in you! God does too! He calls us to step out of our comfort zones. Ask God to take you out of your comfort zone and He will. All you have to do is ask Him and genuinely mean it in your heart. Yes, this is challenging for introverts like us - but just imagine about how God can use you for His name when you step up to a challenge for Him.
So while I'm encouraging you to step out, I do want you to know that it's okay to be an introvert and like the time to yourself. I totally get it and love solitude. But make sure when you're having your alone time that it's not to be secluded, but instead for solitude.
Blessings & prayers your way.
-Summer :)
