                                                            ❛  do not touch me! that’s my MOTHER’S!   ❜ she’s not sure what made her want to believe that common THIEVES would care an ounce about whom the necklace belonged to. she was rather defenseless here with the four men around her --- they wanted her MONEY. ⊰  her father LOST their money when he tried to sell land that did not belong to him. she had nothing to give, save her mother’s necklace dangling around her throat.  ⊱   still, that didn’t mean she was going to merely HAND OVER what belonged to her. that is, until one of them snapped a quick  ‘ JUST STAND STILL ‘  order, directed straight to her, && therefore locking her feet into place on the ground. she couldn’t move her body -- which made it ALL TOO EASY for them to yank the necklace from her throat, drawing up a SHARP yelp, more out of ANGER than PAIN.

                          ' your grace! you should be in your chambers. haven’t you heard? ' 

                                                   the quiet voice comes from behind. in the moment, she trusts no one. the thought that this could be one of the englishmen who brought threat to the castle had her whipping around. eyes scan.     a guard with the french coat of arms. she breathes a sigh of relief, her head nodding only once. ' i am well aware, and headed to my chambers just after i ensure the safety of my ladies! thank your for your concern, truly. ' ( a lie, no doubt. ) 

                          the fact that she doesn't recognize the man hardly concerns her, she knows french court is armed with many guards. it's near impossible for her to know every face. ' i shall escort you, it's not safe for you to be without guard during such hostile times. ' men roamed the castle in search for the queen herself, but this doesn’t disturb her, it only stirs a rage.      one that wouldn’t be easily extinguished. the safety of those at court fueled an internal fire, making her a fervent target.

               ‘ i’m quite all right! you mustn’t worry about me. please. i’d like the protection of the housemaid’s, and kitchen staff to be insured, if you could? ‘ she nods, turning her back. a sheer sign she needed no assistance.   ‘         as you wish, your majesty. ‘ soft, composed strides carry her forward, and for a moment the only sound she hears is the rhythmic click her shoes create, at least until heavy boots begin to slowly trail behind her. it snatches her attention, and a glance is shot back over her shoulder. instantly, her heart drops and she gives off a sharp inhale.

                                                                        she knew she was in trouble.

                  ❛ I CAN’T BELIEVE FRANCIS LET US TAKE JEAN WITH US... you don’t think it’s too COLD here, do you...? though, i do suppose it’s warmer than it is at the castle... is it always warmer in condé?  ❜ she can’t help the questions. she’s trying to fill the SILENCE. the ride there had been quiet. he didn’t seem content to be away from court; she could GUESS why. she was doing this for MARY. louis could not be led to mary’s heart. it was foolish & would cost them both their lives. she liked louis enough to want to protect him, too. this trip to condé alone with him & her baby was what they needed to make a connection & return ready to finish their courtship & get him out of mary’s hair. 

                    SHE TURNS TO SMILE AT LOUIS, gaze gentle. ❛ do you want to hold him...? francis would never allow it but--- well, he’s not HERE, now is he? ❜ she has to trust him with her child if she was ever to marry him. she DID trust the prince; his heart may be misguided, but she liked what he stood for.

                             her voice is teasing, LIGHT as a feather---- so much so she scarcely recognizes the sound of it. she hadn’t thought it was possible for her to ever feel so WEIGHTLESS again---- not after the siege. but with him she feels,    finally,    safe.      “such a serious expression. “       a touch of concern creeps in, scrunching her brow.       “ everything is alright, is it not? “

I was expecting a giant dramatic ending with his kill as well. It just felt so bland and rushed. Though I’m sure you’re a little happy that he’s alive :P
