Omg finally a blog that's alive. I'm not heavy in the fandom anymore but 3 of stephanie Anderson's billdip playlists are gone and I'm so sad because there was so much niche music that I can't find and if I could just get the song titles I'd be so happy, do you know if anyone knows the songs in playlists 1, 3, and 4, or knows how to contact her? I feel like this is kinda hopeless but holy shit I really don't want to give up. Thank you so much!!!

I did want to know about the marriage thing but figured someone else would ask ANYWAY whats up with your marriage headcanons 🍵

A’ight y’all really jumped on the train after I posted that (15 asks? shit), so I’ll tag everyone that asked after I’m done. I’m not putting this under a cut, either.

So, in my opinion, we as a fandom project our societal views of marriage on Guardians without taking into account the likely world changes that would have taken place between our current time, the Golden Age, the Collapse, the Dark Age, the City Age… up to now in-game, that could drastically alter how marriage is practiced, arranged, and viewed. Not to mention everyone started worshipping the Traveler the moment it arrived, which continues to this day in game, and I highly doubt anyone wrote or Spoke about the Traveler’s decrees on the way its’ chosen should unite themselves.

Personally, I think it exists vastly different from how it does today, with civilian marriage being the closest to what it is for us now. Okay, to the point.

Guardian marriage is weird for me. They have the potential to live infinitely if given the chance, so permanent monogamy would be really… unusual, I think. A fresh example is Lord Shaxx, he’s canonically marrying every single Guardian that earns the The Vow bow, and the only thing people were truly weirded out by were the doves he had Arcite release. Everyone’s favourite Theatre Jock is a canonically confirmed Polyamorous Pansexual Polygamist.

Destiny’s universe takes place well into the future, wherein humanity as a whole is transformed so drastically that war as we currently know it is nonexistent, human lifespan tripled, and the entire species is working together to colonize every planet and moon in the solar system. Then, the majority of that is completely eradicated in the Collapse, and humanity’s in a state less than shambles. Almost everything they knew has been destroyed, and those that remember don’t live very long. The Warlords and Early Risen know absolutely nothing about their predecessors, and many took to killing those who would remember without mercy. AND THEN we have the Awoken arriving on Earth bringing who-knows-what kind of wacky traditions they conjured in their 3000 years in the Distributary!

In the end we end up with a legion of undead immortal super soldiers wreaking havoc across the planet and solar system, and civilians who managed to survive in the post-Collapse hellscape and make it safely beneath the Traveler, so a whole-ass ceremony plus pre-Golden Age ancient religious traditions from centuries ago probably won’t survive, nor hold up, in all the chaos.

Especially in the case of Guardians! There’s a very high probability one of them outlives the other by a large margin, so I’d think they wouldn’t want to be like… (I hate to say) chained to that one person for potentially all of infinity. They could be with someone for 75 years, but then they die, and their partner lives on for another 700 years. It feels highly unrealistic or rare to have entirely monogamous Guardians who never partner up ever again after their partner dies. We have Zavala as the only known canon example of this currently.

I choose to believe that, instead of a marriage that’s a “‘I pledge all of forever to you and no one else’ ceremony with obsolete ancient religious undertones reworded to reflect the Traveler instead”, Guardians marry by giving themselves little informal permanent personal reminders of the person or people they’re currently devoted/married to in the form of trinkets or small tattoos. Imagine Shaxx covered head to toe in 1″-2″ tattoos that represent each and every lover he’s had in his long life. Even if you’re fifteen more relationships/marriages down the line and 1000 years in the future, that time with each individual was not lost, or forgotten, and you still have a little piece of them that you carry with you, that reminds you of the time you shared, until you die. 

Hence why @amara-the-average-hunter​ and I decided to give each of the girls a tattoo of a symbol that represented the other on their right ring fingers. 

They’re “Guardian Married” now.

In their case, I don’t know for sure how long down the road they’d do this, since the first couple of years would pass really slowly (like babies, because time perception and all that). I’m thinking they might get them two years in, because when you’ve been alive for 3 years, two years is a long time.

Then they manage to stick together for another couple of centuries, and eventually become Vanguard Wives.

TL;DR - Traditional Marriage doesn’t exist several centuries in the future, Guardians are flexible and don’t waste their time with dumb over-the-top ceremonies, so they all get tats the end thanks for coming to my TED Talk
