Part Of Her 1
Conrad Fisher x y/n reader
Summary: Conrad had been distant all summer long. Now he stood you up again, leaving you hurt and alone.
Jeremiah had watched it all going down for months now. Conrad not talking to her.
Conrad then calling and stopping again.
Conrad forgetting everything he was supposed to do as Y/N’s boyfriend.
At the day of her prom, he had forgotten the flowers. As much as she tried, Susannah and Jeremiah could see that Y/N had been disappointed. Again.
It had been a up and down, happy and sad.
For a long time Y/N had openly loved Conrad. Y/N was Susannah’s favourite person. “Her girl” as Susannah liked to call her.
Y/N was both, a friend and one of Susannah’s best friend’s daughters. It was always Susannah, Laurel and Y/N’s mom.
Thus, Y/N had spent every summer at cousins beach. And not only that, she had spent every free minute of it, loving Conrad. And everyone could see it. Everyone but him.
Of course, deep down, Conrad knew. But before, he had never acted on it.
Their relationship had started one year before Susannah got ill again. Until then, a sudden night in April, it all had been going perfectly. It was late in the evening and Conrad called her. Told her.
He seemed completely out of his mind, furious and, sad, helpless. From then on, Conrad was distant. He just didn’t tell her what was going on. Susannah told now one, what was going on.
He tried though, Y/N knew that but she didn’t know WHY he was behaving so strangely. And it pained her. All she wanted was to help him, understand him.
Before summer started, he stopped playing football, he quit talking to his dad, he started smoking. Everyone was shocked. And then, the weird behaviour seemed to also catch Y/N. Where he was able to act normally around her before, he now was distant, cold. He didn’t talk a lot anymore. He tried to let his feelings rest, tried to avoid thinking of it all. But every time he did just that, the pain just sat right behind his ribcage, tying a knot around his heart.
The evening it all got too much was Susannah’s last grand ball. She had planned it for months but wasn’t able to be part of it, only watching through laurel’s phone. It was also Y/N’s prom. Susannah had planned it to be at the same day.
She had told Conrad multiple times that it was special, the time he should arrive and he had been listening. Or more like pretended to do so.
When he noticed he was too late he went in his car and drove as fast as possible. It was a rush. He had noticed too late what time he should have been there. He knew Susannah would be angry about it.
And when he had parked his car and went running to the hall, pace steady, his heart beat. He ran through the doors and came to a halt right in the room.
Then, with heavy breathing, he started searching for her. His Y/N. To tell her he was sorry for being late again. But when he finally found her, standing alone next to all the couples dancing, he was grabbed by the elbow, turned to a halt. In front of him stold Jeremiah, with a stern expression on his face.
“What are you doing”
“Findig my girlfriend.” Conrad spat shortly. He was over Jeremiah’s behaviour.
“You know you left her standing there right?” Jeremiah said angrily.
“I know, I’m just late I forgot and..”
“What conrad? What could have been more important than her. She had been standing there, all alone, waiting for you, while the others have the time of their lifes. You are so messep up. You can’t even do this one thing correctly. I have been watching you the whole summer now. You are pathetic. You know I love her. The real her. You only love her because mom loves her more than anything. You think you have to love her as well. And you know what. Y/N is not some part of mom just because she loves her. Y/N is her own person.” Jeremiah had spoken so clearly, so loudly, it finally reached Conrad. Finally.
Conrad was stunned.
“I.. it’s not. Like. That. I do love her!” He said with anger. It was unfair, he loved you.
“But she doesn’t realise.” Jeremiah said quietly, pointing at the way you were standing there. Alone.
And then he went up to you. He had to change.
“Y/N” he said.
You turned around. You had been waiting. Again. Realisation hurt.
“Conrad.” You paused looking at him. “You are here.” You said in surprise.
“I am.” He looked at his shoes and then back at her. “I was late something came up and..”
“Something.” You repeated, smiling to yourself. It was a small smile, not really a smile, more of an unsure and sad smile than anything else.
“I was waiting. I thought you wouldn’t show up.”
“I, i did. I do.”
“Yeah. Maybe I should go home it’s been no fun for me anyway and I’m tired. It was a beautiful ball.” You said quietly.
“No, no don’t go yet we could still dance.”
“I don’t think we should anymore Conrad. I think i have been waiting my whole life for you to notice me. You never did. I have been dreaming of all this forever and now I feel like Susannah has forced you to pity on me. It’s okay though because I am done waiting. So yes, I want to go home.” With tears forming in your eyes, you looked at him.
But when you were leaving, Conrad grabbed your arm, just the same way Jeremiah had been grabbing his minutes prior.
“I understand Y/N and I don’t have something that makes this better but I can only tell you that you are not some part of my mom. You are your own person and I don’t love you just because she loves you. I love that my mom loves you but I love so much more about you as well.”
That was the moment.
