Nothing lasts anymore...it's hard when you try

"We'll run the roads tonight
We'll meet at conscience point
I'll look into your eyes
And know that somethin' really matters
'cause we can change our minds
And we can find our way
And leave it all behind
'cause you really mean that much to me"

Been in love with this song for a month now. It tells a story about two people who are lost and alone, and trying to reach out to the other. They inevitably find comfort in each other, in their romance, and escape to a place called conscience point to escape from it all for a while.

She walks quickly on toward a floodlit terrace with white umbrellas and a bar curved like a gondola. "Now I have an adopted daughter, Laila. Means 'night' in Arabic." (p102 Conscience Point)

Flashback Friday: Once a cheater, always a cheater (Summer 2001)
The summer of 2001 was particularly action-packed, as I was out in the Hamptons just about every weekend. I was also running with a really fun crowd, which meant we had full access to the clubs (sometimes 3 in a night), parties and the good life (as far as a twenty-something is concerned). I was also dating this guy (let’s call him Jon), and everything was going great until we decided to go out to the Hamptons with a big bunch of people one weekend.
Instead of a chic hotel, we were staying in a massive sharehouse owned by a few of the biggest club owners/promoters at the time, so I should have known what I was getting myself into. (If the omnipresent Paris Hilton was indication enough, I don’t know what could have been.) Upon arrival, we staked our claim on a few twin mattresses (on the floor, no less) and then the games began.
We piled into a few vans and made our way to Conscience Point, and all was well and good. The drinks were flowing in the VIP room, I spent an inordinate amount of time dancing on a table, and at some point I realized Jon was nowhere to be found. I didn’t care enough to make an issue out of it, and eventually I headed back to the house with some other friends. As we were getting out of the van, Jon came walking up the driveway, hand in hand with another girl—and then they started making out. I mean really, bringing another girl home to the place where you’re staying with the girl you’re currently seeing? Bad form, dude. I spent the rest of the night guy-bashing with other unlucky-in-love girls (to give myself credit, no tears were shed), and needless to say, that was the end of my relationship with Jon—except for a very uncomfortable car ride back to the city.
Can you top that?
