does hawke have a mabari? what's their name? what are they like?
hawke’s mabari is named dog. he’s fully aware it’s uncreative, and vaguely detached. he got the mabari when he was 21, intending him to be additional protection for the family and deterrent for strangers. he spent weeks trying to find the perfect name. he tried out different names as the days went on, never for more than a day ( though more often than not, using the name only once ) before calling him ‘ the dog ’ again. soon it was shortened to just dog, and after a while it started to stick, and the mabari would answer to dog.
he’s loyal, of course, having imprinted on hawke. if hawke doesn’t like someone, dog mirrors the feeling and is notably more hostile ( growling, on alert, etc ). with allies, dog is friendly, welcoming, and protective of them as well. it’s a huge comfort for garrett to have dog around, particularly after da2 and he’s alone —– he feels less alone thanks to dog, and depends on him for comfort during high bouts of anxiety.
like most mabari, dog is big. he weighs upwards of 140lbs, and stands at around 32in at the withers. his coat is light brown with white accents, similar to this one mabari in game.
