okay i spoke about this with @gaysonlyocean and applying consimili to the groundhog day au has really made me think about it in detail.

so like, if nauls gets infected with it, it’s irreversible and he has to figure out a way of how this is happening so other people don’t get it. which sucks because the symptoms don’t really show until it’s far too late, but in a way, nauls has the benefit of the loops (to a degree, it’s absolute misery having to endure it, but he also wonders if he can figure out by seeing what happens to others in the loops and what they have in common and what to avoid).

so i mentioned it doesn’t actually kill a person per se, rather it’s more about a fate worse than death as your body slowly adjusts into a zombie like form and it spreads to your brain last, allowing up until the very last moment where you lose all functioning and consciousness as a human being to be able to comprehend how screwed you are in not being able to stop this.

so with nauls (i can’t believe it took me this long to realise a loop is a week long) he develops it and so by the next loop there’s some damage and it’s still kinda there which makes it easier for the infection to spread faster (alongside the fact that your immune system is broken down, so your body is also attacking itself too) and so eventually it spreads faster with each loop (also, depending on how prone you are physiologically to infection, the process can be longer or shorter, but here it doesn’t help with each time the loop resets, because now you’re weaker thanks to the previous loops and a lot more susceptible to a quicker infection process).

so it doesn’t actually kill you, but your whole body and brain slowly adjusts itself to a complete zombie like form and even when you’re aware, you can’t do shit. and the loops reset every time he’s killed, so just like the assimilated version of Nauls, the consimili version of Nauls has to be killed off to start the loops again uninfected.

it’s amazing how your ideas can develop when you apply them to different scenarios. i understand this a lot better now. i love what i’ve got going, based on inspiration from both him and @exorcised-coffee. it means a lot, honestly!!

I remember talking with @exorcised-coffee and @gaysonlyocean about an AU with Dad Mac and the two tiny sick bros which the thing takes advantage of, and since coming up with my consimili disease and talking about the groundhog Day au I feel something has really evolved as a result and I've understood my own idea too

consimili is less about dying and more about being a fate worse than death; you don’t really die so much as turn. that’s why you don’t drop dead because your body’s learning to ‘adjust’ to being a zombie slowly and why symptoms don’t really show until it’s too late. i feel like when the infection spreads and destroys your organs and immune system, your body also responds by attacking itself and making it easier to get infected by other things, so:

1) what could be the symptoms of the infection could be put down to other illnesses and

2) why symptoms more or less show later because it starts off slow with your insides so you don’t realise and then when your immune system’s even more down it can speed up the process, therefore you show more symptoms as a result
