Protomartyr’s new ‘Consolation E.P.’ is out tomorrow (6/15) on Domino and today the band shares the record’s beautiful closing track, “You Win Again,” which features Kelley Deal of the Breeders. Listen above.
Protomartyr’s new “Consolation EP” is a politically-charged 4-song collection. Kelley Deal of The Breeders lends vocals on You Always Win and EP highlight Wheel of Fortune with the biting refrain “I decide who lives and who dies”. Deal’s voice adds a nice contrast to Joe Casey’s speak/sing (more like yell in some cases) vocals. I’ve loved pretty much everything Protomartyr have done and I’m excited to see where this angrier yet more collaborative sound might lead them next.

Joe Casey sounds like a man on a mission. He’s like your college professor that finally said the hell with the system and one day during class had his Network moment of “I’m mad as hell and I’m not gonna take this anymore!” He’s a prophet in a rumpled suit and sunglasses who spits barbs and damnations against society, an in turn you and I(we deserve it.)
