What the Nintendo Switch needs to do.
These are my analytical ramblings on what the nintendo switch can hope to do, that will hopefully help them in the long run. Because at this point there is no denying it is going to have a rough launch. 1. Release plenty of games in the Summer, Fall, and Winter. Make up for the launch by giving plenty of titles to choose from throughout the year. Especially by the holiday season. The starting launch only really has 1 major system seller, and that is zelda. we need to make up for that. IT’s what the 3ds had to do, and the switch can do it too. also, be sure to port some of the other really solid wii u tittles. Like Smash Bros. Seriously, give us Smash Bros 4 deluxe. 2. Release an improved console with better memory, later in the year. i don’t care what people say; the memory is god awful on what should be a great console. the concept is fine, the hardware is decent (if it does sadly mean western devs might jump ship again. more on that later), but the memory guarantees you will be eating through the data with maybe a handful of games, at most. Even if they can’t manage a 500 gig memory like the ps4, at least get half that. You should not have to buy the memory cards JUST to be able to play more than a few games. (EDIT: also while you at it, see if imrpoved battery life IS possible, or better ram. these aren’t deal breakers for me personally. but if it is possible; do it.) infact, to tie it in with the first section of this. Make a snazzy holiday bundle with some of the major nintendo titles, with the better memory version. That way people get more incentive to get those ones. 3. Lower the prices of the controllers and other add-ons! DO I EVEN HAVE TO EXPLAIN WHY!? NO ONE IS BUYING A CONTROLLER FOR 70 FUCKING DOLLARS!! NOT EVEN FOR YOU “HD RUMBLE” GIMMICK 4. DON’T. FUCK UP. THE MARKETING. This is crucial nintendo! The Switch could make bank if you market this thing correctly. I’d say the best bet is to market it as a high end handheld. Marketing as just a home-console on the go, is suicide. while you may not be competing with Sony and Microsoft anymore, the general audience doesn’t see it that way. making people look at this like a home console with a neat feature, is not going to make it go far. But marketing it as a handheld instead, is going to do you wonders. Though i can imagine someone is going to come to me and say “BU-BUT I DUN WAN A HANDHELD NINTENDO, I WANT HOME NINTENDO!!” why is this a bad thing?? it’s literally a convenience. Really, if nintendo really wants this console to do well, or even garner third party. it needs to market itself as a powerful handheld instead. Especially with the system specs being pretty much being under-powered. again. and please... focus on the games in the marketing. please. 5. MAKE SURE THE ONLINE SERVICE IS GOOD, AND CHEAP. self explanatory. make it a yearly service, or a very cheap monthly service. gaming is expensive enough, no need to make it even harder.
This is what they will probably have to do.
