Vinyl Wednesday #49: Fight Amp "Constantly Off"
With an opening that sounds like the beginning of an apocalypse film or a barge moving through an icy ocean “Ex Everything” starts off Fight Amp‘s “Constantly Off” out on Brutal Panda Records with the sludgiest effort that these guys have ever put out! It’s slow, brutal and doomy as fuck! Equally as grimy, “Survival Is Strange” moves at a much quicker pace, giving a glimpse into the band you’ve been listening to all of these years, but the mix is still sludgy as fuck. The chorus kills it with the line “Guilty” repeated over and over again. This song takes so many twists and turns in it’s songwriting process that it definitely takes a few listens to get your head wrapped around it. As if the opening riff was played on a bandsaw “Leveling In A Dream” takes it’s time to get started and then as if by surprise it comes alive with one hell of a hook! By far the main riff on this track is one of the catchiest on the album! A drum lead opening introduces you to “You Don’t Want To Live Forever” which may be the heaviest and most enraged track on the album thus far! The riffs are rabid in nature but the cut speed of the vocals reigns in the viciousness in a way that doesn’t make the track any less brutal! “I Perceive Reptiods” joins bass with guitar to open and just as you’d want it to the album that you thought couldn’t get any heavier does in a unimaginably huge way. This song has way more pissed off vocals and slower yet catchier riffs that hit hard as fuck! Finally, “Happy Joyful Life” has this crucially disjointed opening that comes together and incorporates way more noisy guitars than previously heard on this album. The breakdown in this song epically builds back up and then steadily gains speed ending “Constantly Off” in probably the best way possible! By the time the track is over you might just think how in the fuck did they pack this much amazing noise rock into just six tracks!
Before “Constantly Off” hit the street I had the opportunity to listen to it before most. Listening to it on and off I can honestly say I instantly enjoyed it, but then something weird happened. It grew on me, like how albums I don’t initially like do. It’s a testament to how great Fight Amp can write a series of songs! They fucking slayed it and if you haven’t heard it yet (which if you follow the site is probably impossible) I’m actually really stoked for you to hear what I consider to be the best release of 2015 so far! As I mentioned this morning their dual album release show with KEN Mode and Psychic Teens is this Friday at Kung Fu Necktie! Get to that gig! This is definitely not one to miss! You can pick up their album at the show or you can order it online here! In the meantime listen to it digitally below and get way stoked! It’s short, but sweet and will leave you wanting for more!
UPDATE: As of a few minutes ago there are only 50 TICKETS LEFT FOR THE SHOW ON FRIDAY!!!! Get yours at kungfunecktie.com before it SELLS THE FUCK OUT, NOW!
