Chamber Music Cincinnati Highlight
For over 80 years, the mission of Chamber Music Cincinnati has been presenting ensembles and recitalists of the highest quality to Cincinnati audiences.
The Cincinnati Chamber Music Society was formed in 1929. A musical pioneer, it was only the fifth such society in the country at that time. Chamber Music Cincinnati is the only musical organization in the city regularly presenting internationally-known chamber groups. CMC brings to the 2012-2013 Constella Festival the captivating Tokyo String Quartet.
Officially formed in 1969 at the Juilliard School of Music, the Tokyo Quartet traces its origins to the Toho School of Music in Tokyo, where the founding members were profoundly influenced by Professor Hideo Saito. The Tokyo has been featured on numerous television programs, including "Sesame Street" and "CBS Sunday Morning," released more than 40 landmark recordings, and served on the faculty of the Yale School of Music as quartet-in-residence since 1976.
This performance will be the last time Cincinnati audiences will ever hear the Tokyo perform live. The ensemble has announced that the coming season will be its last. The New York Times observed, “As the Tokyo quartet ends a major chapter in its history, it shows no sign of weariness. It played here with commitment and a passion…” We can't wait to offer our audience the same thrilling experience.
