You can only see where you're going when looking backward. I am wrapping up the Constructs and Context Relativity series and enjoying the revelations of reflection. I've been writing a lot about the works, and through review, I've discovered new entry points and perspectives to approach each iteration. Iteration and Artistic Content: 1. Constructs and Context Relativity I : Material constructions in space and the activation of historical cultural memory through performance 2. Constructs and Context Relativity II: ephemeral/systemic constructions that inform one’s spatial perception 3. Constructs and Context Relativity III: Spatial practices in ethnic vernacular spaces/ Dancehall and my father’s lived experience in conceived space

MASS MoCA Asset 4 Artists Open Studios, September 2018

For 2 weeks, while at MASS MoCA’s Asset 4 Artists studio workshop, I further developed research on my forthcoming project, “Constructs and Context Relativity." I enjoyed my time in retreat reading, exploring the museum’s amazing collection and continuing research on my forthcoming project.  

Although this project is in it’s beginning stages, I enjoyed the time spent here at MASS MoCA’s Asset 4 Artists studio residency further developing research, gathering materials and writing. What was presented during MASS MoCA’s  Asset 4 Artists open studios was not the work in its self but a culmination of daily experimentation and research exhibited in a studio installation. I played with object semantics, did self-portraiture with gathered materials, wrote and reflected on earlier images captured this spring for this project in particular.
