Football game, Barbecue and depression.
There are moments in your life where all you need is a beer and marketers know that. Consumers (sometimes subconsciously) associate beer with particular moments, emotions, activities or rituals and this is when marketing teams jump in and try their hardest to make sure you will choose their brand over all the other ones.
Here is a little list we made of these associations:
Moments, activities, rituals:
- Parties: everybody drinks beer at parties (especially student parties), it's cheaper and lighter than most alcoholic beverages.
- Sunday Barbecue: drinking cold beer and eating grilled meat go hand in hand!
- Sports games: supporting your favorite team would not feel the same without a fresh bottle of beer.
- Concerts: the music is so good or so bad that you need a beer.
- The french "apéro" and Afterworks: you don't really want to be drinking vodka at 6PM, and those peanuts make you so thirsty...for beer.
- Summertime: it's hot and you feel adventurous, a beer is what you need!
- Holidays: family reunion and turkey are easier to digest with a good beer.
- "Wanna grab a drink?" kind of situations: you want to engage in a long conversation with a pretty girl and having a beer will definitely help you to feel at ease.
- Joyfulness: you're in the mood to celebrate! And if there's nothing to celebrate you will make something up.
- Stress: A bad day at work? Exams are coming up? Sometimes you know you need to take a break and relax with a foamy pint.
- Depression: you feel down since that pretty girl dumped you, but thank god you have friends...and beer!
